Client background
In response to the growing demand for streamlined operations, the City of Keller, TX embarked on a journey to enhance its efficiency by selecting an advanced Asset Management System (AMS). The city needed to leverage modern system functionality to optimize work orders, streamline inventory management, and enhance asset tracking processes, ultimately fostering a more agile and responsive municipal infrastructure.
The business challenge
The City faced significant challenges with its current AMS, primarily stemming from three key areas of deficiency. Firstly, the system generated inaccurate reports and data, eroding user trust and necessitating manual data analysis. Secondly, the initial setup of the system was poorly executed, leading to complex workflows and inadequate integration for department needs. Lastly, dwindling vendor support from the vendor raised concerns about the future viability and effectiveness of the software, leaving the City with uncertainties regarding ongoing support and updates.
Strategy and solution
Sciens Consulting helped Keller address their challenges with their Asset Management System by initiating several strategic actions. Firstly, they facilitated the development of a Request for Proposals (RFP) to explore modern, user-friendly alternatives to the outdated system. This involved identifying key criteria such as intuitive user interface, accurate reporting capabilities, and integrated workflow functionalities. Additionally, Sciens recommended a focused approach to data conversion, advising the city to only migrate core data to the new system. This selective conversion strategy aimed to streamline the transition process and mitigate potential data integrity issues, ensuring a smoother implementation of the new AMS.
Sciens continues to assist the City on their journey towards a new, modern AMS that will work for both the Public Works department and citizenry.
